Birthday Fun

I realized I missed posting a really fun part of our week last time. We were out for a bike ride to the library one morning and stopped to talk with a friend. While we were talking, a little chickadee landed on Ezri's bike cable and stayed put for almost our entire ride home, flying off just before we made it to our driveway!

This past week, we had a lot of additional chaos. Daddy had a lot of extra meetings and a ton of late nights for work, so it got a little stressful. Wednesday night we were able to go to church as a family for a night of yard games designed to help church attenders connect. The kids had a great time playing and Daddy learned a new game too!

Thursday morning, the kids and I headed to Beard's to pick strawberries, yum!

The berries were smaller and many were rotting as there was so much rain mixed in through the week, so it took the kids and I over almost 2 hours to pick an entire row! By then Elam was far over it and the girls were tiring of it as well. But we made it through! After picking, we headed to a friend's house from MOPS to play for a few hours and that made up for the berry picking mess.

Back at home, the kids and I played the afternoon away, had dinner and did bedtime while Daddy was away for the entire day for his big meeting.

Friday brought a visit from Opa and Oma.

Saturday started out cool but clear and it was Mommy's Birthday. The plan for the day was to make some progress on the playhouse. While Daddy ran a few errands, Mommy started preparing the ground for the sandbox. When Daddy returned, we screwed some boards around the bottom to seal in the box and then I started digging sand to fill it. My little helpers were right there digging in too!

We had to stop for a few berries on our trips back and forth past the berry patch with the wheelbarrow as I hauled the sand from one side of the yard to the other, nearly 25-30 times that day.

Grandpa and Grandma came late in the afternoon and Grandpa lent a hand to Daddy while I continued the sand digging and hauling. By the time we were ready for dinner that night, so much progress had been made! We got the windows cut in the back of the loft,

built the sandbox walls and filled it with sand

Installed a railing using some of the boards from our old swingset that the kids had added artwork to

and put one of the lower wall pieces on.

The girls were all about the new sandbox!

Sunday afternoon, we celebrated my birthday with our friends. Daddy had planned, with their help, a special afternoon of games and fun in the theme of a Little House on the Prairie episode about "Founder's Day" in my honor.
