A couple of weeks ago, the kids made a discovery in their sand box/play barn. A robin was busy at work building a nest. We watched from afar for a few days, and then, two eggs appeared!
Another day passed, and a third egg appeared. Then Mamma Robin settled in for a long wait. We've been checking on her daily to see how things are going, anxious to see signs of new babies emerging!
While we wait, the kids have placed a warning on the door, to let others know it may not be a good place to play while Mama bird is nesting.
Last week, we spent a late evening at Sandy Pines helping Grandpa & Grandma get to the bottom of a bad smell coming from under their trailer. While Daddy spent hours crawling under the camper clearing out leaves and debris, searching for the source, the kids and I cruised around Sandy Pines, stopping at playgrounds and just enjoying being back in Sandy Pines.
Late in the evening the source of the smell was finally discovered, trapped between the bathroom floor and the black water tank - a dead raccoon. It took some problem solving to get the stuck critter out, which eventually resulted in tearing up the bathroom floor a little and Daddy having to be the brave one to scoop it out. But it was finally cleaned up and, after 10 we headed for home.Alora and Tierney have been a source of entertainment for us here as of late, with their latest shenanigans where they act as one to be a tall lady.
There was excitement here on a few different occasions as Ezri, Alora and now Elam have all gotten new skates (the oldest 2 grew out of theirs and we had no boy skates for Elam to grow into). Add this to my new skates and suddenly we are all geared up to have some skating fun outside this year.
Satuday was a bit of a slower paced day for us, and Daddy even got to wash his truck, with some special helpers.
Mommy took a few moments to relax in her new hammock chair, soon to be entertained by a silly little farm girl.
Sunday was a pretty high stress day for our family. After getting sick late Friday night, Tobi had not eaten or had anything to drink, so Sunday morning calls were made to the emergency vets in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. GR had a 12 hour online wait with likely longer wait time as they had not yet seen patients from the day before. Thankfully, Kalamazoo was looking to be 1-2 hours in wait, so Tobi and I headed south while Daddy and the kids stayed home to attend church online and play with friends.
Tobi and I watied in the parking lot for 45 minutes before he was called to come in. Still under Covid precautions, all owners had to wait outside, special circumstances excluded, so back to the truck I went, where I stayed, read a full novel, played on my phone too long, and watched people. After several phone calls between myself and either a triage nurse, the doctor, or the receptionist throughout the day. Turns out, Tobi had a fever near 106 degrees and was pretty sick. While the cause was not immediately clear, a quick blood test revealed that his kidney levels were pretty high, and the options included poisioning, infection, cancer or worse. The hospital wanted to keep him for 48 hours to provide fluids, run some tests and monitor him, but we decided, with a $2000 + price tag, to take a chance and bring him home after he was given some fluids and an antibiotic, to watch him closely and get him in to our vet the next morning. He was finally released after 4:30, and we were both grateful to see one another. Some snuggle time was spent in the truck before we headed back for home, exhausted with the addition of me being hot, hungry and thirsty from the long wait in the parking lot
Fortunately, we were able to get him in Monday morning, an God thing for sure, as they were booked all week and the following week, with a cancellation that had just come for that morning. There, it was good to be among people who knew me and knew Tobi and his history. We determined with a quick test that he had a bad infection in his kidneys, but that the antibiotic was beginning to work as his kidney levels had come down some and his fever was gone. He has started to eat and drink again, and is slowly regaining strength. We are so grateful for his return home and move toward health again and prayerful he makes a full recovery
