We are officially on summer break and loving it!
Last week, we finally got the seeds in the garden planted... and then immediately had 2 days of frost warnings which meant we had to once again cover all of our plants. Thankfully we hadn't yet planted our plants in the garden, just the seeds! When we could finally safely plant, we set to work and then put up a fence around the garden to keep out our little wild bunny friends. Sadie kept watch of the activity, happily soaking up the sun.
Wednesday night, Elam had another Tee Ball game. He was ready to go long before the rest of us, and waited semi-patiently from the back step, where he could keep an eye on the ball field across the road where he would be playing that night.
Thursday night, we headed to our friends Ron and Kim's home to learn how to care for their chickens while they were away on vacation. The kids were so excited to see all the chickens and gather the eggs. Following that, Elam got to drive a tractor and we got to ride out in the field and woods, the girls and I in an UTV, Elam on a quad with Jamesen. The kids loved it!
Friday kicked off Memorial Day weekend and we were ready for it! We enjoyed a bonfire at Kathy's Friday night. Saturday afternoon, we re-connected with our friends at the Berlin Raceway where we tailgated before heading in to watch a night of racing. A first for most of the group, there was a lot of excited energy.
We found the stands with plenty of space to spread out, and were able to sit near the fence.
We got to see a flyover duirng the National Anthem, which was really cool!
Then it was time to start watching all of the different races! There were quite a few cautions and several accidents that took a lot of time to clean up, which gave the kids an opportunity to stand at the fence and look at the cars closer.
As the sun set, we were treated to a beautiful view as we watched the final race conclude.
Then we got to watch fireworks!
Once the race had concluded, we were able to go down into the pits so the kids could see the cars up close and check out the track. It was such a fun night! Our kids loved it and said they wanted to go again sometime.
Sunday, after church, we met up with Kathy and her boys at Sandy Pines for an afternoon of swimming, the first time the kids were able to be in the lake this year. They swam for several hours!
Monday afternoon, we connected with our friends once again, this time in Saugatuck for a dune ride! We started off with ice cream before our ride. Even though we had done this last summer, we all had a blast once again!
After our ride, we checked out a little bit of Saugatuck, watched some boats in the channel and were surprised to find a deer very close by, which we watched for quite some time.
Monday afternoon, the kids were begging to swim again, so Alex and I took our kids along with Emmett back to Sandy Pines for a couple more hours of swimming before we had to call the weekend over, but what a great weekend it was!
