January has slowed life down for us a bit. While we still wait for winter to actually show up, we've toned down our activity a bit and resumed some "normal" life activity.
A virus has floated around our house the last couple of weeks, which has contributed to the slower life pace. Both Elam and Tierney have had visits to the doctor for ear pain. We've all had a cold to some degree, a few of us are still working on the tail end of it. The doctor visits meant a lot of waiting, so Tierney and I made our own fun as we did so.
Elam has kind of been the star of the show around here lately. Up to his old, and some new tricks. We've caught him back in the rabbit cage again... something I thought we had put behind us months ago.
Last Sunday, the drive in was sunny, so all of us wore our sunglasses. When we arrived, Elam refused to take his off and went through the majority of the church service wearing them!
As this week came to an end, we finally got winter weather. With a few inches of snow on Friday night, the girls were eager to go out and play on Saturday morning. They didn't stay out for long, however, as the temps were in the teens. From then on, the temperatures have dropped drastically, with sub-zero temperatures on the thermometer and wind chills in the negative teens to twenties. So, aside from going to church yesterday, we hid inside, watched a movie together, napped and played.
Last night was a pretty special event in nature, a "Super Blood Wolf Moon". This was a combination of three astronomical events:
- A wolf moon (the first full moon of the year, named for wolf packs heard outside Native American villages this time of year)
- A supermoon (a full moon that happens when the moon is also as it's closest point in orbit to Earth)
- A blood moon (another name for a lunar eclipse which makes the moon appear red).
Alex and I popped outside every 10-15 minutes once it started about 10:30 and at just after midnight when the moon was fully eclipsed and red in color, we woke the girls so they could go out and see it too. It was already -4 degrees out there, so it was a quick trip out, but they were all excited to have been able to see it themselves. I had some fun photographing the process too.
For what equipment I have, I was pretty thrilled with the pictures I was able to capture as the eclipse took place. What a privilege to be able to witness such an amazing display of God's creation and beauty!
