The highlight of last week was the time we spent babysitting Barb the bunny. Ezri has been working hard, learning and practicing her rabbit showmanship skills on a stuffed bunny until just recently when my friend Tina got her market rabbits. After practicing at Tina's house previously, we were offered the opportunity to have Barb come to our house over night so Ezri could practice and spend time getting to know Barb. So, last Wednesday night, Barb arrived at our house. All day Thursday, Ezri worked and worked with the bunny, going through the steps and practicing her holds.
Barb was quite a trooper and very cooperative despite all of the extra little hands wanting to hold him, the dog constantly sniffing him and the cats poking into the cage and watching curiously. No doubt all of the extra flipping, being handled and such left him tired too.
Thursday afternoon, the girls took him outside to let him move around a little before another practice session. He really enjoyed that!
Ezri was so proud and had so much fun playing and working with her bunny.
Sadie did really well, just wanting to play with the bunny, but she stayed back when told and just watched.
Alora was thrilled to be able to get her hands on the rabbit whenever she could, as was Tierney.
The practice sessions are paying off as they both get to know eachother. Seeing her work so hard and noting her pride in the project, even Daddy softened up to the idea of her showing a rabbit at the fair.
When it came time to bring Barb home that night, there were some tears on the part of Ezri as she had already fallen in love with Barb. She was tearful at his going away from her, even though she knew she would get to work with him again. After dropping him off and playing around the farm for a little, at bedtime she was again teary eyed. We found ourselves contemplating the idea of having a rabbit in our home in the future. Much is up for research and discussion yet, but it sure was fun to watch Ezri invest so fully in her project and we are excited for her to have the opportunity again soon.
Saturday, we woke to a rainy day. We found ourselves deciding to have lunch at "Donald Doo's" so the kids could play and burn some energy. The Sebrights joined us, as did Uncle Andy. While Tierney is not a fan of the play place because of the noise inside the tunnels, she was happy to hang out with the big people and play with her new toy.
After the rain cleared, we headed to the local Lenhart Farm for an FFA sponsored event featuring a tractor show and other fun things. The kids got to participate in a pedal tractor pull, and Alora won for her age group!
Afterward, with popsicles in all of the kids' hands and a giant candy bar as a prize for Alora, the kids played some carnival games and got some prizes. Then we all went on a tractor pulled wagon ride around the farm to watch some plowing in the back fields with horses and old tractors. The kids really enjoyed themselves.
