The warmer weather has hung around, so the girls and I took advantage of the clean, snow-free streets to take a bike ride Monday evening after supper. We happened across Tucker's Doggles and riding pack that he used when going on quad trips with us, so I fitted Sadie up and she got to go with us!
While on our bike ride, I got a phone call from my Uncle Don. He was bottling his last batch of Maple Syrup and asked if Ezri would want to come watch and help. Of course she did! So, we hurried back home, loaded into the van and were off.
The girls and I had the opportunity to help gather sap, watch and help tap some trees, see the evaporator and watch it working on two different occasions earlier in the month, so this was the part we still needed to see. We have learned so much and enjoyed being allowed to participate in the process. Ezri has been so excited about the whole thing and has even asked questions and set aside some of her shy tendencies to interact with my uncle. So, Monday night, we watched and again got to help as he heated up the syrup that had been drained off the evaporator and then bottled it.
The girls were eager to help put lids on, note how warm it was and count how many bottles had been filled in this year. We purchased 2 quarts at the end of the night too! After the bottling was done, the girls helped Uncle Don feed a calf, gather some eggs, check out all of the roosting chickens and then watch airplanes cross over the farm. We even learned about the moon and watched stars come out a little. What a special opportunity, one I am sure they will remember! They have been chattering about various aspects of it all week.
After all Uncle Don has done with us and all the time he spent teaching us, Ezri and Alora wanted to send him thank you notes, so we did!
Ezri worked very hard writing her note all by herself and drawing a picture on the front. She included a lot of syrup jugs and maple leaves in addition to her drawing.
Alora also worked hard on her card, but had a bit more help from me in the writing department. Still, she was quite proud of her work.
The finished product was quite cute and I am sure he got a smile out of the cards as much as I did watching the girls work so hard to create them.
Wednesday, we went to Great Grandma's and helped her fill the plastic eggs in preparation for the big egg hunt on Easter Sunday. They were all very helpful and had a great time being a part of the process again this year.
We did our usual thing around the house, staying inside a bit more thanks to some rain and cooler temperatures, but that sure didn't slow the girls down. One evening, Tierney decided to direct her energy toward helping with wall decoration. She was quite pleased with herself as she threw handful after handful of her food as hard as she could against the wall before I could stop her. That kid...!
We spent time playing with friends on Friday, had a quiet Saturday at home and then spent more time with friends on Sunday. After church, we went bowling together with the Sebrights, Jay & Becci, and we had so much fun! Tierney was a riot when she got to put on the new shoes, she was so proud of them.
All three girls had a great time rolling the ball down the lane.
And when they weren't taking their turn bowling, they were quite the cheering section for their friends. What fun!
