Our week started out with a trip to the dentist with Alora, who had a filling break off. Because the tooth was one that was to be lost in the near future, they decided to pull it out as opposed to repair it again. We were warned that the one next to it could also come out as both were nearing the point of no roots left and ready to be wiggly soon, and so it was. A few moments of work and the dentist had two teeth in hand for Alora to take home for the tooth fairy!
Wednesday, things got interesting with the weather as an ice storm hit us, closing schools Wednesday and Thursday. It was quite something to watch develop all day Wednesday.
Thursday the kids went out to play on the ice and check it all out!
The rest of the week was spent in shenanigans and preparations for a big birthday ahead!
Friday afternoon, Ezri helped decorate her fancy mini-cakes for a celebration with Kathy, Jay, Becci & Henry that night.
Saturday, Ezri invited Sofia and Aubrey to join her for the day to play. Joined by her siblings and Wesley, the kids played, went to the park (it was cold!), decorated their own cakes, and made pizzas for lunch.
Then they set their minds to solving an escape room puzzle together for over an hour.
Ezri had such a fun day with her friends!
That night, we made more preparations for the big birthday the next day and got ready for church too!
Sunday morning, Ezri woke up a 13 year old! She donned her special tiara and "official teenager" sash and jumped into the morning with excitement, starting with a bow hunt.
The rest of the house scrambled to get ready for church and then Alora, Tierney and Elam anxiously awaited the time they could give Ezri her gifts from them.
With time to spare, they were able to do so. Elam gave her a card he made and a fidget toy.
Tierney made her a card as well, and gave her a head massager she had been dreaming of.
Alora gave her a new bunny pencil bag and some fancy pens.
Sadie and Wiley enjoyed the sunshine that filled the room.
After church, we returned home to prepare lunch. Ezri wanted to use the fancy dishes and had made her own place cards!
Opa and Oma joined us, as did Kathy, and we enjoyed a lunch of tacos, with cheese & crackers and fruit to nibble on as well. Following lunch it was time for gifts from Opa & Oma and Grandpa & Grandma, who joined us via facetime from Florida.
From Opa & Oma, Ezri got a handlettering and calligraphy book and pens, some clothes, and a devotional.
From Grandpa & Grandma, she got some fuzzy socks, the Anne of Green Gables book set, a Willow Tree figurine and a bunny baseball cap.
Then it was time for cake! Grandma had made a cake to go along with Ezri's cake here.
This year's cake was a clover (made of brownies) on top of a chocolate cake, and it was super yummy!
We snapped a photo of the kids with Opa and Oma before they had to leave early, and then took a breath before diving in for more birthday. During that time, Ezri was able to chat with her pen pal, Ashley, whos 13th birthday it also was. We are so glad Ezri has Ashley, who is so much like her in so many ways. Each have walked through similar life events and been able to be there for one another, even though miles away.
Ezri still had gifts from her Daddy and I to open! So, a while later, she was back to opening gifts again. A bunny mug and her #13 doll...
A Lego Chain Reaction activity building book (which Elam really loved)...
A new hair brush and devotional journal...
A music box building set...
A Breyer horse with book...
And a set of gardening tools she had wanted since her last birthday!
With gifts complete, we headed to the Hopkins Elementary playground for some time playing, soaking in the sunshine and high 30's temps, got in some time walking and running the track, and then made our way back home so Ezri could get ready to go to youth group that evening, excited that Sofia would be going with her.
Hard to believe our baby is 13!!! But she is already such a lovely young lady and we are excited for the days ahead with her.
